The Sunscape Festival begins on June 2nd in Timișoara, offering an educational journey into the universe of art through the light
From June 2nd to 15th , the citadel of Timișoara will once again be touched by the wing of light – the Sunscape Festival returns for its second edition, an event that merges art, education, and cosmic vibration in a multisensory celebration of the sun and human expression.
This year’s edition brings together photography, ambient music, visual arts, and performance in an inspirational dialogue between knowledge-hungry youth, brilliant artists, symbolic spaces, and cosmic themes.
Sunscape continues to channel the vibrant creativity sparked by Timișoara – European Capital of Culture 2023 – through a series of dynamic events that give voice to art and light, putting Timișoara and Timiș County in the spotlight as living spaces of inspiration and cultural development. The festival was part of this cultural program and explores light not only as a physical phenomenon but also as a symbol of human expression, inner awakening, and our connection with nature and the cosmos. The festival thus becomes a space for learning, meeting, and transformation – a place where art becomes meditation, and perception, a form of creation.
A special guest at this edition is renowned Belgian photographer Marc T’Syen, an artist with extensive international experience and former assistant to Sir Cecil Beaton, a legendary figure in photography. Working alongside him, Marc had the opportunity to meet and study personalities such as Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Princess Margaret, and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.
Settling in London’s Bromley district at the age of 17 – a vibrant space during the punk explosion and artistic freedom of the ’70s and ’80s – Marc met Malcolm McLaren (manager of the famous band Sex Pistols) and the well-known photographer David Bailey.
In the 1990s, Marc moved to Milan, where he became actively involved in the fashion world, working with prestigious publications such as British Vogue, Face Magazine (under Condé Nast), and clients like Warner Bros UK.
At the festival, Marc will lead a series of photography workshops, where young participants and enthusiasts will learn to capture the essence of light and fleeting moments in emotional frames, discovering new concepts with Marc or exploring iconic locations in Timișoara and Timiș County.
Through the artistic lens, these young people will discover not only advanced photographic techniques but also a new perspective on light – seen as a metaphor for knowledge and personal expression.
The highlight of the festival takes place on June 5, when the world celebrates Galactic Tick Day – a symbolic moment marking a unit of cosmic time related to our Solar System’s journey around the galaxy’s center.
On this special day, POD Gallery of the Timiș County Center for Culture and Art will host the opening of the exhibition “Where Lights Rest” by Marc T’Syen, featuring works inspired by sunlight and urban/natural landscapes captured in a deeply poetic aesthetic.
Cezar Blînda will complete the sensory experience with a series of pieces titled “Solar Traces”, compositions that radiate a living silence, becoming altars dedicated to cosmic rhythms. The exhibition will open with an acoustic piano concert performed by Yvonne.
Galactic Tick Day will also feature a special ambient concert by artist Inia Dinia, who will craft a unique sonic universe inspired by natural phenomena and centered on the theme of light and solar energy. Her ambient music, flowing gently like sunlight filtered through leaves, creates a contemplative setting where sound becomes a multisensory experience.
Another unique element on June 5 is a live clay performance by sculptor Remus Irimescu, who will shape a clay piece in real time, synchronized with the sounds of Inia Dinia’s electric harp. The clay thus becomes living matter, reflecting light and music in a dance of the elements – earth, water, air, and fire – a visual poem of creation and metamorphosis.
The second edition of the Sunscape Festival unfolds in three chapters of light and artistic expression:
